It pains me to write this but..... New Chef - I was hopeful. We frequent the IBTS very often over the years. I loved it. Now, the menu is completely repurposed and while I tried to embrace the changes the quality and taste did not deliver. For example, I ordered the lobster dish. This dish came with an enormous potato cake (completely took over the plate); along with a sausage/corn combo - covered in gravy. The flavors were not well coordinated & the portion was too much. My husband had a pork shank dish. The pork was tasteless & dry, the accomanyment of pasta was bland and mysterious (& I consider myself qualified to determine spices and favors and couldn't taste any flavor) the Swiss chard (I think that's what it was) "ok". The dining room has been remodeled (looks nice), the service was GREAT. Sadly the food was marginal at best. I will try breakfast in a couple of days and probably write more. If my breakfast experience is similar to my dinner tonight - I will journey from the Cape to Portland (or so portland - David's 388) where there are a number of amazing culinary options are available. This was a real disappointment.

Not your average hotel restaurant. We ate both Breakfast and dinner at the Sea Glass. The staff was very attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. Great selections on both menus and the biggest problem you will have is figuring out what to choose. The same hold true for their signature drink and wine menu. A vast selection to choose from! For breakfast I would recommend the crab cake & avocado benedict - to die for! If you're less adventurous, the Maine Blueberry Pancakes were also fantastic. For dinner the grilled and butter poached lobster gnocchi was a choice I didn't regret. Make sure to save room for dessert and try their unique Steamed Lemon Pudding! Great views with the ocean in the near distance and the beautiful grounds of the Inn By the Sea hotel.

Solid for dinner-great atmosphere and wine selection. I stayed at the inn by the sea over this past Labor Day weekend. Their restaurant, the sea glass was perfect spot for apps in the afternoon and a great lobster gnocchi and bottle of wine, whatever your preference. Had breakfast here the following morning, I grew up in Maine, so I'm a little lucky in the blueberry pancake sense, and yet was really impressed with the glasse's showing...

Was pleasantly surprised when this place was neither pretentious or overpriced. We went for brunch, where I had the best clam chowder I've ever eaten and the wedge salad. Partner's corned beef hash was SLIGHTLY bland but still better than your average breakfast place, and another in our party enjoyed the cheddar burger. The meal was so good that we all got dessert - highly recommend the ice cream sandwich or creme brulee. The server kept loaning my aunt his own glasses because she forgot hers and couldn't read the menu. Really happy with this place, will definitely go back.

I love this place ....classy, great food and gorgeous view. And perhaps I go here too much, but it would really be great if you changed up the menu. The food was well done, but the choices don't seem to have changed all winter. I had to drop it down a star.

The restaurant far exceeded our expectations. We stayed at the hotel for the weekend and just wanted to stay in our first night. The menu was thoughtful and the special (rack of lamb) was amazing. Our waitress and the chef were incredibly accommodating to me and my wife. I couldn't turn down the special, but I also really wanted the local mushroom risotto. I asked if they could do a half portion as a side and there was no hesitation. The atmosphere was great with a postcard view of the ocean from our window front table. If you're staying at the inn, you'd be crazy not to go here. If you're in Portland, it's worth the 15min drive to get to it.

Fantastic food and service! We very much enjoyed both the rigatoni bolognese and the seafood paella. The flavors of both were very fresh and prepared perfectly. However, the dessert was the masterpiece of the meal. We had the chocolate soufflé with raspberry sorbet and the creme brûlée and both were amazing!

Outstanding! Mussels and fresh fish right from the wharf. Will definitely go back. Beautiful setting and got to sit outdoors on a great evening. Great wine selection as well.

We ate here for new years and it was dissappointing. Over priced for the quality of the meal. The pork belly course was good but the lamb entre was terrible. I see the reviews are favorable overall but they really missed the mark on their new years offering.

The service here is really good. We sat outside on the porch area in comfy chairs and couches. Nice wine selection and specialty cocktails. Weather was gorgeous and there were lots of interesting guests enjoying the day. Dogs are prominent here at the inn by the sea as it is a dog friendly resort. Cute dogs just chilling with their owners all over the resort! Back to the food, we ordered the himachi poke. Delicious semi raw chopped fish served over sticky rice, diced tomato and avocado. Little dots of spicy delish sauce drizzled over the plate. We also ordered a lightly crisped fish taco appetizer. Wow that was good. There was a small cocktail function being held on the lawn and the had a musician playing the guitar. Really nice to hear live music. Definitely check this place out. Wonderful ocean views

I had heard great things about this place here and there over the two years I've lived in Maine so was excited to finally go there. When I walked in my hopes seemed to have been met with an incredibly beautiful courtyard overlooking an ocean landscape. However things went downhill basically immediately. I hope that my experience was unique and due to inexperienced staff that were spread too thin with a wedding also taking place but I would have expected a restaurant who has been around this long to have settled these issues by now. The hostess first told us there were no tables to sit outside so we put our names on the "wait list" for indoor brunch seating. We went to wait in the garden outside when we saw not one but two tables open right at the doorway, plus a few more scattered around (more were open than taken although about half were still dirty from the prior guests). We pointed out the empty outdoor tables to the hostess and she graciously agreed to sit us there, asking our names and number in our party (she didn't recognize us from literally 10 seconds prior and thought we were a new group). We reminded her of our prior conversation and she sat us down outside. We got our drinks and ordered food. At that time we realized that 90% of the conversations at the tables around us were about how terrible their experiences today were, how services was slow/nonexistent, how food was taking forever and then coming out cold or wrong, how nobody seemed to have any clue what was going on. Unfortunately this was accurate and poorly-hidden foreshadowing of more to come. We got our food 30+ minutes later: a lobster roll, a burger, a chicken Caesar salad and fish tacos. I've never been somewhere with a group where literally every dish had something wrong. Mostly dishes were missing things (pineapple salsa on the tacos, lettuce/tomato/onion on the burger, etc) but there were other fun findings. Instead of croutons on the Caesar salad, someone had dumped the crumbs from the bottom of the crouton bag on top of everything and instead of salad dressing mixed in, there was just a single glob of dressing on the plate underneath the lettuce pile - a trick I've never seen before. It's a shame that such a gorgeous restaurant would have such ugly food and service but I suppose it's not the first place to rely on location to attract patrons. I might return to get drinks and enjoy the outdoor space but it'd be hard to imagine getting a meal there again.

We had the fish tacos, lobster roll, keylime frozen dessert, two ice teas and two coffees at lunch. We enjoyed the view and friendly service. Everything was fresh and delicious. The odd thing was that we came here after standing in a long hot line at the Lobster Shack. We went there for the view and a lobster roll but the wait to order was so long we went to Yelp for an alternative and found Sea Glass, The lobster roll costs the same at both places and, for us, the menu at the sea glass had many more items than fried sea food plates! We are extremely glad our cell service worked out there on the coast so that we could change our minds about where to eat. The Sea Glass is a brilliant find!

Eat well in Maine. High quality and fresh beyond words. Loving Sea Glass at the Inn by the Sea in Crescent Beach, ME (Cape Elizabeth) - near Kettle Cove. Sitting outside on their deck in good weather is definitely the way to go. We started with salads - the wedge is a treat with candied bacon - woof! Also tried the scallops for dinner and could not pass up the chef's amazing lobster gnocchi. Everything tasted wonderful and was beyond pleasing to the eye. Service - excellent. Drinks, they got 'em - wine...check...good selection of IPAs...check. Desserts...too many to name off. Sea Glass is a dining experience you should not miss this summer - I loved the location and the friendly staff!

BEWARE OF TOURISTS! NEW JERSEY COUPLE FACETIMED MOM FOR 40 minutes AT THE TABLE!!! Went for dinner last night. Told it would be 15 minute wait for a table so we sat down and had a drink. Fun cocktails, lots of selection. 45 minutes pass and people who have been waiting after us get seated and I head back up to ask about our table, the lady forgot about is us. We quickly got a table. Our sever was slow and constantly forgetting about us too; took over 15 minutes to get the check as we were being eaten alive by bugs outside. The food was 3-4 star but the service ruined the meal (1 star).

Just had a wonderful Mother's Day brunch at Seaglass with two of my teenage kids. Wasn't sure they would appreciate the intricate quality of the food, but they did. My 13-year-old had French onion soup which had a delicious grilled cheese sandwich for dipping rested on top of the narrow bowl. What a concept! She loved it. Her entree was a vanilla blueberry cream cheese stuffed French toast coated with cornflakes and surrounded by a fresh cherry sauce. Hit it out of the ballpark with this one. My son had a smoked salmon platter with deviled eggs on a base of something else, and he loved it, as well as his crab cake eggs Benedict. I had a tuna tartare over rice and avocado--deconstructed sushi. It was delicious and filling. My lobster frittata was a bit disappointing because it came as an omelet, but it was very generous. Dessert was delicious and I loved that I had a view of the ocean the whole time. A beautiful gift of a rose at the end was lovely.

We decided to go here spur of the moment at 8:30 on a Sat pm. We were staying nearby and just didn't feel like making a shelp to go out for dinner. It was a fine choice and pretty relaxing. I think we will be back. The staff is excellent and accommodating in a very down to earth way. The dining room is really small and chill. Nothing about this place is fussy, which I really appreciate especially since it is in a pretty posh hotel. I like that the menu isn't too inventive or off the wall. My pasta was down right delicious. My husband had the paella which was fine but nothing to write home about. The dessert was so sickeningly sweet - blueberry tart, and the crust to berry ratio was out of whack. If you are in the area this is a lovely place to have a decent meal, though I would not necessarily go out of my way.

Made a reservation for my husband's birthday. Service was very attentive and we were not rushed at all. Menu was filled with interesting selections-many vegetarian options. We split a delicious braised beets appetizer and roasted squash soup. I had the salmon, which was very tasty and accompanied by brussel sprouts and squash. My husband ordered bolognese which was served on a rigatoni-shaped pasta. Portions were perfect, taste was outstanding. Only negative is the small size of the dining room-while cozy, the noise level can rise very quickly even when other diners are simply eating dinner and talking. Felt NYC-ish but in a good way. Prices very reasonable - no different than other Portland area restaurants of similar menu. Visited previously during Restaurant Week the prior March/April timeframe and will definitely return.

I can only comment on the two breakfast brunches I had here, they were delicious. This place sits inside this luxurious inn that we stayed for two days and it is small and intimate in the main building. It overlooks the grounds and the views are tremendous. The menu contains breakfast and lunch style options but we opted for the delectable corn beef hash, french toast and blueberry pancakes as well as eggs benedict. The homemade english muffins were delightful and both meals were equally stunning. The staff was friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this place especially if you are staying here but be sure to make reservations.

Great service and the food was awesome. We has lunch one day and dinner another while staying there. Both meals were yummy. Gnocchi was delicious! Such a unique dish but wonderful. Try the apple sparkler for a drink. Fall in a (champagne) glass! Doesn't get much better!

We just had a quick weekend in Cape Elizabeth/Portland Maine. The Inn by the Sea is a great hotel and they have the Sea Glass restaurant. We just went for lunch (kind of late ~ 2pm) but they served us. We had the clam chowder that was not too thick and the lobster bisque which was not too heavy. The smoked salmon plate was filling, and the reuben had a nice winey sauerkraut in it. Service was good, and the view of the water is great.

Five stars all the way. By far the best meal I've had in all of Maine. I had the bolegnese paired with the Garnet Pinot noir. Nothing short of fabulous. Atmosphere is very nice and the staff is quite professional. It's on the preppy side but don't let that throw you off. If you are in the area don't pass this spot up!

Good quality food, good service, and relatively larger portions than expected. Not to mention the location/view. We were 3 days at the inn and had only our last dinner there (didn't want to drive downtown) and it was a great ending to our vacation.

Outstanding and tasty menu options. Outstanding friendly and professional service. Beautiful table views of the ocean. Quiet, cozy, and luxurious. What more can I say? Yes, I would come back and yes, it would be one of my top choices of places to eat in the greater Portland area.

My husband and I stayed at the Inn by the Sea this past June and were looking forward to mostly dining at the Sea Glass Restaurant. The first evening we were there we had dinner. The ambiance and views were amazing, and our server Anthony was great. Per our servers suggestion I started with the lobster bisque and was wowed - huge chunks of lobster with a broth that was brimming with flavor. For dinner I had the filet -while the cut was great it had absolutely no flavor at all, very disappointing. It needed some type of sauce to help out its sad state. The side - mashed potatoes and brocollini were both great - and full of flavor as they were doused in butter. The next two mornings we decided to have breakfast at the sea glass as well. We sat outside both times and were mesmerized but the stunning views. Too bad we did not feel the same way about our food on day 1. We started with the fruit cup - for the price it was a modest serving and consisted of un-impressive fruit types. I had an omelet with the home made English muffin. They skimped so bad on the cheese in my omelet I was unsure if they added it at all and had to open it to double check. Yup it was there but so minimal I couldn't taste it. The English muffin to my dismay had the same issue as their filet - absolutely no flavor. I cannot believe I came back here the next day for breakfast, but we were lazy and just wanted to walk to eat versus drive. What a difference a day and choice make. I had the best blueberry pancakes of my life! I love my pancakes thin, which they were, and packed with flavor. Fresh blueberries and the real deal maple syrup. I had to ask for extra syrup as they were a bit skimpy on this. The service both days was wonderful. Our last night we decided to have desert on the deck and bring our pup Carmelo. We decided to go as no one was on the deck .We were conscious of this because we had our dog and did not want him to disturb anyone begging for their food. I ordered apple crisp and waited 45 minutes for it. I was trying to be patient but eventually had to go in and ask if our order was coming. They forgot to put our order in and apologized. They came out awfully fast for a crisp after I mentioned it, and to my dismay my apple crisp was actually an apple crumb, and cold to boot! I mentioned this to the server and he admitted it was very misleading on the menu. The worst part is that it did not even taste good. He took it off our bill but never offered us anything to replace it. Ultimate fail on our romantic desert on the patio. Overall I found this place to be incredibly inconsistent for what I expected for the Inn and price.

Expensive, but good overall. The paella was brilliant. Tasted Desiree--chocolate dessert wine for the first time...and I'm a believer. The creme brulee was served perfectly, warm, clean distinct maple and vanilla and amazing texture, not too crunchy nor too syrupy or gooey. The crabcakes, fish tacos and clam chowder were another story. Very 2/5. Not sure if its me but both their bisque and their hollandaise sauce were too tart for my taste. The seafood made up for it---especially the lobster. Well it's Maine! Their service was topnotch and we dined inside, outdoors and in the lounge by the fire. Loved it.

My meal at Sea Glass was the splurge meal on my recent vacation to Maine, so clearly my expectations were high and I was certainly not disappointed. The food was terrific, though a bit pricey, and the atmosphere, view, and wait staff were all stellar. The atmosphere at the restaurant was warm and relaxed, but still dressy. The dining room was very comfortable and though it is a fine dining restaurant it did not feel stuffy in the slightest. The wait staff was great and very attentive. The restaurant had a wonderful view of the ocean that could be seen from every seat. There are also a number of tables outside on a patio, which also have a great view of the ocean. These seats would be absolutely wonderful for a romantic or relaxed dinner on a nice evening. The roasted mussel appetizer, seafood paella, and steak with fingerling potatoes were all absolutely delicious. Portions were substantial and I was satisfied without being too full. The cheese plate for dessert was very well done and all the cheeses were delicious. One thing about the Inn by the Sea is that it is very dog friendly so at one point during the meal there was some barking in the hallway outside of the restaurant. It was only a few barks and lasted for only a minute. I love dogs, so this was no issue for me. All in all, my experience at Sea Glass was great and I would definitely consider going back if I were in the area again.

We did not set out with great expectations, but SeaGlass definitely surprised us with its fabulous offerings, delicious preparation and impeccable service (ask for Misty - she is great!). I started with the beet and mixed green salad. My only complaint -it was a bit salty. The golden beets were delicious and perfectly cooked. My appetizer was seared sea scallops with parsnip puree and baby turnips. Oh my, it was so good I could have eaten 4 more. The scallops were huge and perfectly cooked. For the entree I really wanted the locally-caught lobster with gnocchi but didn't love the butter-poached prep. The chef was unbelievably affable & accommodating. He prepared the dish with a lobster consume instead which was superb. The gnocchi was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. My husband ordered the lobster bisque (huge chunks of lobster) with a half-portion of the locally-foraged mushroom risotto (so good!) and the lamb special (perfectly prepapred). The wine list is huge but not daunting. I normally dislike Chardonnay but Misty recommended a glass that went perfectly with my shellfish dishes. I may become a Chardonnay convert! I am not a huge dessert fan but we decided to indulge. My goat cheese cheesecake was sinful. My husband's bread pudding was, unfortunately, forgettable and way too dense. We would recommend this restaurant to everyone we know. It is far better than the highly-ranked Fore Street or 555. Make the trip!!

Read all the reviews for this restaurant before we went. They were stellar and it was in a beautiful hotel which we are staying at called The inn by the sea, which by the way is beautifull. Unfortunately our experience was dreadful, the service and the ambiance were fine. The food unfortunately was horrible, nothing was served at the proper temperature including the wine. None of the food was seasoned or at least it was drastically under seasoned , the salad was not dressed and the tomatoes in the tomato salad had no taste. When it was time for dessert we asked about the gelato who told us they only had vanilla, hardly sufficient for a 4 or 5 star yelp review. When I asked if there was a chef in house she told us the chef was not there. As a postscript talked to the manager the next day who was unapologetic and matter of fact about the fact that the chef was at a new property helping them upon it up.

My wife and I had dinner recently and they came pretty close to earning 5 stars, but a couple hiccups knocked them down a peg. It's not cheap so no 5 stars without perfection. I started with the winter salad which was good. We split the mushroom tart. This needed a little something extra. I ordered the filet and that ended up being the one real let down of the evening. It was served just shy of being cold along with potatoes headed in the same direction. There were 15 people in the place so there is no excuse for that. My wife had gnocchi which was hot and tasty. Overall, service was good. A great meal but perhaps a little overpriced.

This is a foodie's paradise. The restaurant is known for sourcing organic ingredients from local farms-that is why it costs what it does. Some of the best ingredients in New England. The soups are flavorful but with a lovely texture. They go above and beyond to accommodate allergies, really have never seen anything like it. The tricky thing is the menu can change a little with the seasons as the ingredients are seasonal. I love the rigatoni bolognese, if you are ever there for a pumpkin gnocchi season, you must eat it on my behalf. I am allergic to dairy and I frankly didn't care it was that good. Personal favorite for the salads is the beet salad, but plenty to choose from. The locally sourced mussel appetizer is divine, the broth is flavorful and worth the mess.Scallops are also a favorite. The staff are a bit different, you can tell they are in a hospitality atmosphere rather than a traditional restaurants-they will recommend local places to see while you are on vacation and recognize guests from years past. Overall a wonderful environment, good food, and stunning views. Don't request an ocean view table when it's dark...because you can't see the ocean when it's dark. :) Summer is packed with Inn guests so make your reservations well in advance.

Food was pretty good, but incredibly overpriced. The restaurant's website made me believe we'd be blown away, but honestly, I've had better meals that didn't cost well over $100. The service was okay, not to the caliber it should be when you're paying $35 for an entree.

Went with my husband for a nice romantic outdoor dinner. It was beautiful and the food was great! The service was very welcoming and helpful without being overly formal. We sat outside at the fire pit afterwards and walked down to the beach. Loved this place!

Sea Glass is the new restaurant at the newly renovated Inn by the Sea. The menu is comprised of regional fare made with fresh local ingredients. We enjoyed fresh local oysters, a mushroom tart full of flavor, seafood paella that was out-of-this-world and a chocolate cream tart w/caramelized bananas and homemade banana ice-cream. It was all delicious, but the chef's recipe for paella is outstanding...it was the best I have eaten. If I lived within driving distance, I would certainly return.

Cozy little restuarant with an ocean view. Filet was fantastic, sauce with it a perfect match. Rigatoni "bolongnese" was very tasty as well. The gelato trio for dessert was out of this world good. The bar makes good martinis. Service was above average, they let us move to a window table when a party left. The wine we had was an '06 merlot that was just past peak, turning sour, so that was the only draw back on an otherwise great dinner experience.

Dined here during a recent weekend stay at the Inn and were pleasantly surprised. Dined in Portland the first two evenings during our stay and decided to have dinner here our last evening instead of driving in town. It is off season, we were one of only 3 parties in the small restaurant. Our server was professional, friendly. Our meal were great! Filet Mignon, Bolognese with short ribs and butter poached lobster with homemade gnocchi. Creme Brulee and Chocolate pudding cake were wonderful and were devoured ! The menu is not extensive,I would have preferred a few more entree options but it is a small restaurant and it is off season, which may be the reason. All in all, food was great, atmosphere nice, serving staff great. Its nice that a fine dining restaurant can perform this well in the off season-we enjoyed everything.
